2 Months Ago, WFY(noreply@blogger.com) from William F. Yurasko's says (in Nats avoid arbitration with Willingham, Bergmann, Nieves and Flores) Washington Nationals OF Josh Willingham got a big raise in his second year of arbitration -- up to $4.6 milllion from $2.95 million. Not bad if you an get it. Catchers Jesus Flores and Wil Nieves also avoid arbitration, as did reliever Jason Bergmann who will make $750,000 in 2010.

3 Months Ago, WFY(noreply@blogger.com) from William F. Yurasko's says (in Nats sign Jason Marquis to boost rotation) The Washington Nationals brought in veteran pitcher to Jason Marquis to be a workhorse in the rotation. Pending passing a physical, Marquis will be introduced this afternoon at 2 p.m. The deal is reportedly for 2 years, $15 million, less than I would have expected given the Nats record.

5 Months Ago, WFY(noreply@blogger.com) from William F. Yurasko's says (in Nats manager search: Don Mattingly sought for interview) The Nationals have asked if they can talk to Los Angeles Dodgers hitting coach Don Mattingly about their vacant manager position. Mattingly appears interested and spoke highly of the Nats pitching prospects, especially Jordan Zimmermann, currently recovering from Tommy John surger...

And WFY(noreply@blogger.com) from William F. Yurasko's says (in Nats front office changes) Roy Clark, vice president of player personnel, formerly of the Atlanta Braves
Doug Harris, director of player development, formerly of the Cleveland Indians
Kris Kline, scouting director, promoted by the Washington Nationals

And Ed Chigliak from Federal Baseball says (in Washington Nationals: Top 5 Stories Of 2009. No. 3...Ryan Zimmerman's Hit Streak.) I'll tell you, it makes you appreciate how much 56 really is," Zimmerman told Washington Post writer Chico Harlan, in an article entitled, "Zimmerman's Hit Streak Ends, but Nats Get Win", after his own streak had come to an end some 26 games away from Joe DiMaggio's mark, but DiMaggio's r...

8 Months Ago, Nate(noreply@blogger.com) from Nats Triple Play says (in Hey Buddy, Wanna Buy a Bridge?) The open letter sent out this morning by the Washington Nationals is reprinted below in its entirety (and also available via D.C. Sports Bog). This opus would choke the StanSpeak Translator, but we here at Nats Triple Play feel ourselves equal to the task.

12 Months Ago, WFY(noreply@blogger.com) from William F. Yurasko's says (in Happy Opening Day 2009!) Good morning! Baseball returns today (or last night if you are a Phillies or Braves fan) with the Nats down in Florida to face the Marlins for some reason to start the season. Mark Lerner The Wash. Times shares in my befuddlement, though Stan Kasten* does not, on this one. Nothing says Opening D...

And WFY(noreply@blogger.com) from William F. Yurasko's says (in My 2009 Washington Naitonals prediction) My prediction -- 74-88. If pitching is better than expected, they can flirt with .500. If worse, they probably lose about 92 games. Attendance will be about 2 million, give or take 100,000. Ryan Zimmerman is MVP, Scott Olsen leads with 13 wins.
