New Year's Resolutions for the Phoenix Suns

The Suns' nationally televised Christmas game was a heartbreaker but Suns fans at home were far more pissed watching ESPN's awful coverage. Listening to Mike Wilbon and Jon Barry skewer the Suns was awful. Jon Barry (who never won a championship) lit into the Suns like he should be coaching...

Suns get J-Rich in blockbuster trade

The Phoenix Suns' transition from the Mike D'Antoni era to the Steve Kerr's reign of terror continues. The Suns traded Raja Bell, Boris Diaw and Sean Singletary to the Charlotte Bobcats for Jason Richardson, Jared Dudley and a 2nd round draft pick in 2010.

A few thoughts...

Thumbnail Steve Nash is struggling in his new role. He's being encouraged to run the break but also run the half court offense through Shaquille O'Neal. Nash is averaging 8 assists a game and 3.8 turnovers. He just doesn't look like the same player.

10/29 - San Antonio @ Phoenix

Thumbnail Expectations for the season: I'm expecting an 82-0 record, Amare to be the MVP, Terry Porter to be the COY, Leandro to be the 6th Man of the Year again, Robin Lopez to be the ROY, and a quick 16 game playoff run that ends with a Suns championship.

Die Hard: 2008-09 Phoenix Suns Season Preview

Charles Barkley: "I love Steve Nash, but this is Chris Paul's and Deron Williams' league right now. I always say that Chris Paul is driving and Deron Williams is in the back seat." Reggie Miller: "Where's Steve Nash?" Barkley: "He's in the trunk."

Dragic to join Suns this season

Dragic will be tossed into the fire as Nash's backup this season. Much like Robin Lopez getting to learn the ropes from former MVP Shaquille O'Neal, Dragic will learn how to run the team from 2-time MVP Nash. This team has an interesting dynamic. O'Neal, Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Grant Hill are...

Thumbnail I'll write a profile of whomever the Suns draft. Let's get some talent Steve Kerr! 15 Robin Lopez, Center, Stanford, 7', 255 lbs. 45 Goran Dragic, Point Guard, Union Olimpija (Slovenia), 6' 4", 180 lbs. (acquired from San Antonio Spurs for rights to #48 Malik Hairston)

Phoenix Suns new coaching staffVideo included in this story. Click to view.

Thumbnail Dan Majerle's first coaching job will be hands-on player development. He steps out of the broadcast booth and will teach a hard-nosed professional approach to our younger players. Majerle annually gives out a hustle award and hopefully we'll see some of the traits he brought to the Suns in...

Around the L (*Terry Porter notes at bottom)

UPDATE 2: Terry Porter is the new coach of the Suns. There will be more news later as his staff comes together. A few thoughts... Here's a link to a Porter interview that provides some insight as to his coaching experiences with the Pistons.

What now?

The Grant Hill signing fizzled as he got hurt right before the playoffs. Amare Stoudemire still needs to be programmed for defense and rebounding. Leandro Barbosa took a step backward this season. Boris Diaw came alive in the playoffs, but where was he before that?

The Spurs RulesVideo included in this story. Click to view.

This is only being run on Amare and Shaq, but primarily Amare and primarily with Michael Finley, but it's how Michael Finley has gotten basically every point he's had in the series. Finley will come off of a screen (or moving screen) from Kurt Thomas or Fabricio Oberto while Raja or Leandro c...

Revenge

The regular season kinda sucks after a while. Fans much like players start looking forward to the playoffs. I can't remember a year where I've wanted the playoffs to come so quickly. The ultra-competitive Western Conference has been like the playoffs for the last month. No one could afford a s...

Patience Paying Off

Thumbnail The Seattle game tonight should be over early. The Rockets, Pistons and Celtics are next up on the schedule. The team is getting hot at the right time and the tough opponents make for entertaining basketball because no one in the West can afford to lose. It's bananas how tight the West is. The Spu...

Suns Pursuing (Player Name)

Thumbnail When asked for a comment, Suns general manager Steve Kerr said, "Yeah, any time you can get a guy like (Player), a guy who brings (shooting/rebounding/toughness/defense) to the table, not to mention his playoff experience and high character, it's really a no brainer to at least tell peo...

We root for Shaq now

Thumbnail 1. We actually have a center now. Think about that for a second. The Suns are now a power team. All of Shaq's title teams have feasted on points in the paint and behind the line because defenses double and sag. The Suns were already an efficient offensive team now we have Shaq in the middle.

Suns beat Sonics in season opener

Thumbnail Suns take the season opener 106-99 over the Seattle Supersonics. Positives Amare Stoudemire (23 pts, 11 reb, 1 blk) looked very good offensively and avoided foul trouble in the second half. Marcus Banks' personal 9-0 run snatched momentum away from the Sonics late in the third quarter.

Amare Stoudemire - Chris Bosh

Thumbnail I wrote this elsewhere (in a forum) in a discussion as to whether or not you would rather have Amare Stoudemire or Chris Bosh on your team. I found that this practically wrote itself, as there's so much to talk about on both subjects, so I imagine I will be writing a few of these on some hot topics....
