Blazer's Edge is the #2 Blogger for Greg Oden
The Blazers were flat. That’s pretty much the only observation you need.
Utah got far too many offensive rebounds.
Oh…Travis. 0-4, 0 points in 14 minutes. The 5 rebounds were good, but this was a night when we needed Super Trout and we got Clark Can’t instead.

(in Brandon and Greg are Questionable for Tomorrow)
Brandon Roy (right hamstring strain) and Greg Oden (left ankle sprain) are both game-time decisions and listed as questionable for Boston.
I don't think Brandon misses this game.
Update: Freeman says Greg is getting x-rays tonight.

Nate on whether the physical play helped Greg: "Yeah. Whatever it is. I like what I saw. O'Neal is very physical. That hard foul he had on Greg - Greg just walked to the free throw line. It didn't even faze him. That is the mental part of the game. We've got to be able to play through a hard foul. OK, I'll get...

Travis Outlaw had a better game tonight. He only shot 5-13 but he got 4 rebounds, a steal, and a block. He stayed active, which is what you want from Travis. The 12 points didn't hurt. He could have dominated more against the relatively weak Toronto defense but you'll take it.

2. We missed free throws like they were our Canadian girlfriend. On a night when the Blazers drew a 32-18 advantage in attempts (that would be +14) they ended up only +6 in points from the charity stripe. That's like giving away the game.

2. We got obliterated on the boards. Rebounding advantage is a major key to this team's success. Allowing the Nuggets 12 offensive rebounds is unheard of.
Joel Przybilla did his usual blue-collar job with 7 points, 8 rebounds, and a block in 22 minutes spelling Oden.

Speaking of Sergio, he was really good passing (natch) and helped break the game open. He had 5 assists and 3 rebounds. He couldn't hit a shot though and had 2 turnovers in 16 minutes.
Travis Outlaw got 4 rebounds but his offensive night was...forgettable.
And
Dave from Blazer's Edge says
(in What's Wrong?)
Part of the problem here is that the defense, or lack thereof, makes the offensive bar pretty high. When you’re allowing the opponent to shoot in the upper 40’s it means your offense has less room to vacillate. The Celtics and Rockets can weather off-nights far better than the Blazers can s...

Brandon Roy was amazing in this game. 30 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 10-20 shooting, 14 free throws drawn. And this wasn’t even one of his prettier games. He missed some layups and foul shots.
Nicolas Batum had 2 rebounds and 3 assists and a steal but also 3 turnovers in 16 minutes.

Greg Oden continues to get stripped or fouled every time he gets the ball right at the cup. He shot 6 free throws tonight, hitting 4. He was only 3-10 from the field and finished with 10 points. That said, there’s a big difference between the Greg Oden who’s drawing fouls on other players and t...

(in Game 21 Preview: Blazers vs. Celtics)
The easiest way to explain this matchup is to say that most things the Blazers do well the Celtics do at least a little bit better. The Blazers are 15th in the league in scoring at 98.7 ppg. The Celtics are 11th at 99.4. The Blazers are 7th in points allowed with 93.2 ppg. The Celtics are 1st at 90.3. T...

The Wizards led after one. The Blazers made it all back plus two more in the second quarter. The game was close through the third. Unlike last night the Blazers came out flat to start the fourth.

(in Game 19 Recap: Blazers 104, Knicks 97)
Portland won this game primarily by dominating the boards which then created extra possessions and extra shots. We had 90 attempts to the fast-paced Knicks’ 78. We doubled them up in offensive rebounds (15-7) and crushed them in total rebounds (54-36). Despite losing 10 points at the fo...

The Knicks are 6-1 when scoring over 110 points, 2-7 when failing to reach 110. The Blazers are going to have to play one heck of a poor game to give up 110 to them. Style will be everything here. You should be able to tell easily whether Portland is headed for a win.

Portland shot the lights out tonight (53.6%) but interestingly enough did not end up winning the three-point battle. Both teams made 8 threes but New Orleans was 8-16 while Portland was 8-23. I’m not glorifying missed shots here but I will say it’s good to see the Blazers win by other, more r...

Miami was just overmatched tonight. You can’t really beat Portland with one player. You can’t guard Greg Oden with small people. You can’t let the Blazers move the ball or get confidence. You can’t stop the Blazers unless you account for at least 3-4 players instead of just 1. And you can’t...

Steve Blake had another good night, shooting 5-11 for 12 points. He missed all four of his threes but he made up for that with 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals. Neither Portland point guard handed Beno Udrih very well but to be fair their help was occupied with the sweet shooting Sacrament...

Roy tried to keep us afloat, shooting 10-23 (but only 2-7 from distance) for his 23 points. He only got 4 free throws as well. This really wasn’t his best game despite the scoring. Raja Bell is a pretty good defender.

Blazersedge: The Blazers make one move to win it all. What is it?
Expiring contract of Raef for Vince Carter or Jason Kidd? That doesn’t lock down a title though does it?
I really want Tony Parker, but that idea is at least two years away.

(in Game 13 Preview: Blazers vs. Kings)
Will the Blazers be coasting after demolishing the Bulls Wednesday night? Playing lazy against the Kings is a great way to let them steal the game. On the other hand a decisive burst of energy early could well turn this into another dunk-battered cakewalk. The Kings could really go eithe...

Jon Barry made a comment in the first half that the Blazers ranked 29th in the league in rebounding and needed improvement. That ranking is only accurate if you measure by total number of rebounds. (And even then they’ve moved up to 24th.) That’s not the best measure because raw numbers of re...

All thanks to Greg Oden. The setting for this tale is Hawaii, shortly after the Blazers season ended in April. Much of the Blazers basketball staff and Oden were awarded a retreat of sorts to the island by owner Paul Allen to help break up the monotony of Oden's rehabilitation workouts.
