In 1998, A’s pitcher Mike Oquist gave up fourteen earned runs — becoming the first pitcher in 22 years to give up that many runs in an appearance — as the Yankees crushed the A’s, 14-1… he was sacrificed to save the bullpen for the next day’s doubleheader.
